Family Sponsorship
Under the Family Sponsorship category of immigration, Permanent Residents or Citizens can apply to sponsor their family members. Sponsoring a family member will provide them with Permanent Resident status in Canada allowing them to work and live anywhere in Canada. Not all family members will qualify under the sponsorship category. You can apply to sponsor a spouse or common-law partner, your parents and grandparents.
There are some specific circumstances that allow you to sponsor relatives outside of these. For example, if someone in your family is an orphan, under 18 years of age and not married, or if a relative has no other living family members, you may qualify to sponsor them under the Family Sponsorship Class.
Other relatives, such as brothers and sisters over 18 cannot be sponsored under this category. However, they may qualify under another category, such as the Federal Skilled Worker category of immigration.
