Health care recruiting demands increase 0

Health Care Recruitment and Retention Conference, 2009
Last week I attended a health care conference that was organized by the Health Employers Association of BC (HEABC). Red Seal Immigration Ltd. spoke with a number of employers who are in the health care industries. A lot of the concerns each company had were quite similar: Employers and Human Resource professionals were concerned with the retention, recruitment and the well being of their staff.
There are a huge number of positions in health care available all over Canada. A quick search of positions available in health care on the Workopolis job board generates over 500 results listing positions such as registered nurses, physiotherapists and radiation technologists for companies across Canada. Employers in the Health Care Industry are looking for health care professionals in a variety of positions, not just for registered nurses. Luckily, Citizenship and Immigration Canada recognized this demand for health care workers and has included them on the list of 38 positions that can be ‘fast tracked’ through the immigration process so that they are able to become permanent residents in Canada in approximately 6-8 months. The fast tracked health care occupations are as follows:
- Managers in Health Care
- General Practitioners and Family Physicians
- Audiologists and Speech Language Pathologists
- Occupational Therapists
- Physiotherapists
- Head Nurses and Supervisors
- Registered Nurses
- Medical Radiation Technologists
- Licensed Practical Nurses
- Specialist Physicians
Because of these changes, international workers who want to work in Canada can now make the first step on their own, without a job offer, to show that they are committed to living and working in Canada and that they will be loyal employees. Skilled workers in the above categories can make their own application through the Federal Skilled Worker program based on their Education, Experience, Age, Language Skills, previous experience in Canada, or if they have family who are living in Canada.
